Another brilliant read September 11, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Have just finished this book being a bit fan of julia and have to say I really enjoyed it! This book has more depth than her other books and deals with the issues of drugs, alchoholism, babies, single moms, divorce etc in a brilliant way! I dont need to tell you too much about the book as other reviewers have told you but basically this book tells the story of poppy who finds herself pregnant after having an affair with a married man. Luke leaves his wife to go and marry poppy - but not out of love its duty as you find out later in the book. Poppy is very lonely been a single mom whilst luke is off with any floozy available. His ex wife writes for a magazine and attacks poppy in her column and labels her "the bimbo". When poppy gets a job its a job about going to parties having to write a column about what you see etc and her and luke drift even further apart! There are a few twists in this story that may surprise you - overall an easy enjoyable read and definitely recommended!
good fun September 1, 2008 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
I liked this writer's other books and this is great too. Witty dialogue, believable characters, a few twists, a fun insight into the world of TV news. Julia Llewellyn's books are always very satisfying because there are no corny goodies or baddies just real, slightly flawed by lovable people doing their best. Looking forward to the next one.
More than chick lit August 29, 2008 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
This book is hilarious, funny, and clever and sad - I really loved it. It's a good read, but it has emotional depth, and the characters are very entertaining - I am in love with both the heroes, especially Tim! The stuff about Lisbet writing for the mens' magazine made me laugh out loud - and her story, the sad bits, made me cry. This is a lot more than chick lit - it is meaty writing for grown up girls - it's about family, babies, love, marriage, it's just all so TRUE! - a brilliant juicy read. ******
really good read August 28, 2008 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I enjoyed the last book by this author and enjoyed this one even more. It's about Poppy, a young woman who falls in love with a married man, Luke. When she falls pregnant Luke leaves his wife and marries her. But Poppy discovers life as the second Mrs Norton is lonely and dull plus Luke's ex wife, Hannah keeps attacking her in her newspaper column. Poppy gets a job writing about parties for a magazine and life starts to take some interesting twists and turns. I loved the humour in this book and the plot took some great twists and turns, the characters were very lovable and very real. A very easy read and very enjoyable. Recommend it.
