5 out of 5 stars It illuminated what my daughter was experiencing   December 3, 2001

After shouting at my daughters school for 5 years and getting nowhere fast the gift was recommended by a friend - its the best book I've ever bought. Not only did it help me understand what my daughter was going through - it gave me detailed advice about how to help her through her nightmare.

4 out of 5 stars Good anecdotal examples   June 11, 2000

My grandson is a 7 year old dyslexic. This book falls clearly into two parts. The first part explains dyslexia in an interesting way with many examples from the author's own experience which help. The second part documents the author's treatment methods. I found the first part very interesting and helpful. I speed read the second part because it is written in a tutorial style aimed at someone who plans to carry out the "treatment". I was less interested in this part as I would need to establish the credibility of the treatment before I planned to use it.

4 out of 5 stars It enables you to understand the frustrations of a dyslexic   April 18, 2000

My son is nearly 7 and has been diagnosed as dyslexic. By reading this book it has enabled me to understand more fully why he reacts the way he does in certain circumstances and the frustrations he will face. It also talks very positively and relates to it as a 'Gift'. Equally importantly, it has made me understand in greater depth the problem my husband faces and faced growing up with Dyslexia. I thought I understood my husbands problems, but in truth I only scratched the surface! Now I can understand why he has difficulties with some things and is brilliant at others! A very interesting and enlightening read.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for understanding what a dyslexia sufferer sees   October 18, 1999

I bought this book because my son is dyslexic and found the first few chapters extremely helpful in understanding what is going on when he tries to read. The practical approach to helping dyslexia sufferers recognise and deal with their fantastic talent for seeing things in a way the rest of us cannot (which lies at the root of their problem) is clearly spelled out and easy to follow.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting and Insightful reading   July 30, 1999

I started to read this book knowing a bit about dyslexia, but once I had started it, I realised there was a lot that I did not know. It answered a lot of questions that I had. It has helped me to understand. Helped me to think that, yes, dyslexia is a gift.
