1 out of 5 stars Literally one of the worst books I've ever read   November 26, 2008
I bought this book one wet afternoon when i fancied a light, heart-warming read with a big piece of chocolate and a cup of tea. It wasn't even suitable for that.

The novel is very poorly written, it's as if a 12year old is writing, the characters, in particular Holly, the main character, are silly, weak and mainly 2 dimensional. The narrative flows badly, we are treated to immature lengthy descriptions of hairstyles and outfits (much in the way a 12 year old girl might write) and character suffers in favour of cliche and awkward dialogue. A lot of 'he said' and 'she said' all over the place.

It's a shame, as the idea is a nice one, for chick lit, but the author fails to maximize the potential of her original idea, and the whole thing falls flat on it's face. It is never funny, but tries painfully hard to be, in vain effort to show a 'typical' girl, and her 'typical' friends and family overcoming life's traumas. It didn't touch me, I felt nothing for Holly and found her grief unbelievable in the way it panned out. The author obviously has a my-little-pony kind of mindset, as it seems all her novels are similarly immature and saccharine, without any truth. I wouldn't mind if they had something of the fairy tale and magic about them, but they don't.

Really, just utter rubbish.

4 out of 5 stars Great!   November 24, 2008
I read this book ages ago now, but when I did read it it was great. It is quite an emotional read and I did cry on some parts. The reason why I gave it four stars though is only because I didn't like the way it ended!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   November 7, 2008

1 out of 5 stars Very poorly written   October 25, 2008
When I bought this book, I had no idea who the authors father or brother-in-law etc were and I have no axe to grind but it is soo badly written that I simply cannot recommend it. A true example of a bad author ruining a great idea. Terrible.
