2 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC WAITING TO BE WRITTEN   November 2, 2008
This book is pretty clear and gives a good selection of walks, so you should probably take it with you; but it isn't very well written. When the author instructs you to "maintain direction" you probably know that he means you to carry straight on, and when he tells you to head for a church with a square spire that he means a church with a tower and no spire. When he describes the tourist amenities of Port de Soller as being on an "eminently manageable scale" he may be saying that they are, well, on a small scale. Or maybe not.

At one level this doesn't matter; the main thing is that the book probably won't get you lost, although at times you have to use a bit of common sense. But it only gets two stars from me because I think it's unforgiveable not to write well about such an enchanting place. Others will be unworried by such considerations and be attracted by the book's chatty chirpiness.

5 out of 5 stars The best walking book for Mallorca   August 27, 2007

This is such an inspiring book. The author's enthusiasm is infectious and his route descriptions are clear; we did lots of the routes and didn't want to come home. Can't wait for our next visit to get into the rest of them.

There are plenty of routes of varying lengths and difficulties so whatever kind of walker you are there will be plenty to suit you. Mallorca is a truly beautiful island and should be on the list for everyone who likes walking.

5 out of 5 stars wow what a great easter in Mallorca   April 18, 2007

Good to get away to Mallorca for the Easter fortnight with Charles Davis latest book. Got in ten full days walking most of it in superb weather using Walk Mallorca North & Mountains. I've used Charles Davis books for the Alpujarras and Gomera, highly recommended, and this title is top class. Clear instructions along with lively prose get you up and going without any worries, all routes work beautifully and as i have another 29 still to go this book will be in my backpack again this autumn.
Great stuff Charles. Where are you adventuring next?

1 out of 5 stars Cairn? What cairn?   April 2, 2007

We walk A LOT and took this book with us to - you guessed it - Mallorca. Hopeless descriptions and sometimes positively down right dangerous directions. Perhaps it's meant only for use with GPS. Try another book and don't use it if you seriously don't know what you're doing.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent walking guide   July 7, 2006

This is a well researched and well written walking guide. It includes map extracts from the companion map (which is also highly recommended). These are sufficient to follow the route but I always like to have something to give a broader perspective as well and the associated map did that well. The routes we used were interesting, pretty easy to follow and accurate.
I wish we had had more time to try more of the walks.
