One of the best Dirk Pitt Novels August 29, 2008 One of the best, I had to say it again. Dirk goes through every hell with his long time sidekick Al. Cussler's development of his characters is taken to the max. He is even saved from a burning boat by his companion, and basically goes through every emotion possible. If you're a fan of Clive Cussler this is a must read. If you have read a few Pitt novels in the past and are looking for a good read, this is a must read. If you are new to the world of Dirk Pitt, This is a must read. Awesome book with an awesome finish!
Great fantasy action, well researched and well written August 28, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have never been a big fan of action thrillers. The only author I read regularly in this genre is Lee Child and his `Jack Reacher` character, and I enjoy him a lot, so I decided to give Clive Cussler a try. I am happy to say I was not disappointed! Even though "Pacific Vortex" was the first published book in the Dirk Pitt adventures series, it was the first Cussler wrote, so logically, this is the novel I picked to start my journey. I found an interesting character that lives at the edge and is passionate about his work. Also in some aspects he is similar to James Bond, women mainly, and the mix is sufficient to keep the reader thoroughly entertained. If you enjoy serial characters then this is a must series for you, also try Michael Connelly`s `Harry Bosh` series, or much more violent is the `Soft Target` thrillers by Conrad Jones. In the Dirk pitt stories Cussler has created a very entertaining series, with a character that has an arrogant and pedantic side, but whom also shows his pure emotions and is true to his friends and ideals. This makes the Special Project Director of the National Underwater and Marine Agency a very likable character. This is a book that a reader can breeze through in a few hours making it an enjoyable way to spend a weekend's afternoon. I will surely read the next book in this series hoping for a similar experience.

One of the best Clive Cussler novels I've read, and I've read quite a few. Gripping adventure as always. Cussler never fails to deliver. Shock Wave will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Cussler uses a topical situation on which to base his story around, and as always some interesting characters are introduced as the story progresses. Being an Aussie, I liked the fact that an Australian character was included, albeit the villain. A top read and a must for all Cussler fans, and those not yet fortunate enough to have read a Clive Cussler novel.

True to Form... March 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Another blindingly good novel from the master of adventure storytelling. The plot is sound and the pace racey as usual. Dirk Pitt does it again, for me. While writing this review, I would also like to recommend 'The Constantine Legacy' by Andrew Towning. His Jake Dillon charactor is worth looking out for.
One more night without sleeping. August 21, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
No author has cost me more sleep than Clive Cussler. This book is no exception. This is a wounderful, fast moving exciting story. If you don't know our hero Dirk Pitt I can only assume that you are on a visit to earth from a far flung planet.Once again Clive has given us a great story. He starts the story by telling us about a British clipper that sinke after a storm in 1856. The survivors are washed up on a tropical island where they discover diamonds. The story then comes up to date when our hero meets up with a party of passengers from a cruise liner who,it seems, have been abanded on a island. So begins this fast moving adventure. If you are already a Clive Cussler fan you will have read this book. If indeed you have been on a far flung planet then it is time to give yourself a treat and buy this book now.
