5 out of 5 stars Very good guide to take shopping!   April 18, 2008

This book is the biggest and most comprehensive calorie counter I could find on the market, and it contains pretty much everything you can buy from the big supermarkets. If you cook mostly from scratch it may not contain, or be as easy to find the calories contained in your ingredients, but as soon as you get used to the indexing system, you should find pretty much everthing you need.
I have been dieting for 2 months now using the smaller Collins Gem counter, and decided to invest in a larger counter to help lose the final stone, and I don't regret it. I take it shopping with me everytime, and it is worth its weight in gold when it comes to choosing the low calorie options out there, saving me from spending hours looking at all the packets!

I highly recommend this to anyone who is watching their calorie intake, you won't find it cheaper anywhere else!

3 out of 5 stars Very indepth   March 17, 2008

I bought this book along with the 'hugely better calorie counter' and I haven't had much use for this big book. Although it has some interesting information at the beginning I found the index of foods so indepth it was hard to use. Especially if you cook fresh food....it lists tinned foods and ready meals extensively but to work out the calories in something you're cooking from scratch is very hard using this book. I'd only recommend this if you usually buy ready made meals and packaged food.

Bought this book four months ago and with its help have lost 2 stone. Initiallly i found it a little confusing, looking up some of the calorie values but once you get the hang of it its great. The advice at the beginning of the book is excellent. Dont join a diet club! buy this book instead!!

5 out of 5 stars If you want to lose weight - this is the way to do it   June 15, 2007

Hi folks, i bought the 2006 version of this book last year and i have to say that it has been easy for me to lose weight using it. I lost approx 1 pound a week since January by reducing my calorie intake by 500 a day. As this wasnt a drastic amount - i found that it was quite easy to do. So i have now lost a stone in weight ( slowly ) and so far eating normally - its stayed off. I think what counting calories shows you is where you are going wrong - for me it was portion sizes of rice and pasta, irregular eating patterns leaving me hungry at certain points in the day - i could see a pattern emerging as i was doing my food diaries. So if you want to lose weight - i can recommend this book - it worked for me ,
thanks Anne-marie.

4 out of 5 stars Useful Resource to Own   June 2, 2007

Being underweight most of my life, I decided to 'fatten up' so wanted to know how many calories were in foods in order that I can make healthier choices whilst putting on weight.
No calorie book is going to contain absolutely every food type on the planet but this one is quite comprehensive so useful if you're trying to cut down on, or like me, add, calories.
Worth buying in my opinion.
