Thanks for a good book, Debbie Carbin October 21, 2008 I nearly gave up on this book after the first chapter because (LITTLE SPOILER COMING) I couldn't see how any woman could continue to fancy a man who did press ups after making love, I mean PLEASE! But I kept going and really enjoyed it. The quirky, conversational style make it an easy read, I found the heroine very endearing indeed, and the way she grew up over the course of the book was very well described. The male characters are a bit two-dimensional but so what, this isn't pretending to be heavy literature, it's a great easy, enjoyable, entertaining read.
Can't put it down October 14, 2008 Still one of my favourite books to date! I couldn't put it down. So true to life and cleverly written. We always know something the character doesn't and it's real exciting stuff waiting for the story to unfold. For once the good guy wins. That's the way it should be!
Watch out Bridget! October 8, 2008 Chick lit? No thanks, not for me! But I was persuaded by a friend this would be worth making a change from my usual non-fiction reading, and how right she was! The author has a refreshingly new and vibrant writing style which grasps the imagination by the throat and defies the reader to put the book down. I'm SO glad I read this book; it's firmly on my present list for Christmas. And if they don't make the film soon it will be a wonderful opportunity lost as it simply outdoes Bridget Jones (which, as a bloke, I confess to enjoying hugely)by miles.
from taking an instant dislike to Rachel,i began to enjoy the book October 4, 2008 this book was a grower was on me. having started reading the first chapter i thought the main character Rachel was so self obsessed and completely in love with herself and her "perfect" life. having got over the instant dislike to the character i began to enjoy the book, and half way through could not put it down! I really enjoyed it, especially the last chapter of tragedy and then joy! n the last line in the book is great {something my mother would do!}
A brilliant read. October 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not really a chick-lit type, more a thriller/detective novel fan, but I've recently met the (very lovely) author a few times and - if I'm honest - felt I ought to read her book. Well all I can say is, thank God I met her! It's just such a lovely, funny book. I started off really detesting Rachel but as she learned some humility and gained maturity, I started to warm to her. So many interesting little twists and turns and a deep understanding of human relationships. Particularly when I reached the second half of the book I had to make sure I didn't start reading before work or I wouldn't have got anything done. I'll be first in the queue for her next book!
