My husband bought this DVD set for a present. I thought it was fantastic. Alan Titmarsh is an excellent presenter and explains the natural history of the British Iles in a way that is understood and really sinks in. Enjoyment for all the family. Highly recommended.

I bought the DVD's for my Husbands birthday and despite the negative feedback from some, we are delighted with the content. Being keen walkers and sailors (a bit like Mr T himself) we can appreciate why looking at mountains from helicopters is a good thing and quite frankly seeing the Dorset (Jurassic) coastline from a boat is the only way to see it. Well done the BBC.
Alan is a superb presenter and is very interesting in the way he approaches the subject matter. You can not fail to be impressed with how this island has changed and how much we have taken for granted. We now look at rock formations in a different light whilst walking and it often prompts a conversation or two.
The BBC excels at doing this kind of thing and long may it continue.
Rubbish March 22, 2006 7 out of 78 found this review helpful
A truely appalling series fronted by a mind-numbing, sleep-inducing presenter who should restrict his "talent" to gardening programmes.

I'd heard some mixed reviews of this series but was genuinely keen to learn some natural history so I took the plunge. What a mistake that was. I have never seen anything so dumbed down in my life. I'm afraid I didn't manage to get through the first episode but after Mr Titchmarsh had spent half an hour or so and innumerable helicopter and boat rides telling us (wait for it!) that there was an ice age, I could take no more. This DVD might be good for introducing an eight year old to natural history. It shouldn't be inflicted on anyone else.
Fun Fun Fun March 10, 2006 16 out of 20 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this DVD set. I had seen bits and pieces so had to buy it to find out more. I agree that there is rather a lot of whooshing around in jet planes and abseiling, but that adds to the fun of it.... I recommend this as a light and easy but informative watch. Even my 6 year old like it, and it is much more engaging for younger children than other natural history programs which can be very dry.
