5 out of 5 stars 'Thoroughly entertaining look at India'   January 21, 2008

Having read the reviews below, after purchasing the DVD's elsewhere, I was slightly apprehensive. However, I was not disappointed. Both my husband and I were thoroughly entertained. Given that we are visiting India for a holiday in March, the DVD's made us all the more excited about going there.

It is clearly not an 'academic' type look at India which to me is quite obvious from the description. It is someone's lighthearted account of this fascinating country and personally I thought Sanjeev was very entertaining and made the people he met on his journey feel at ease. I would definately recommend this DVD for those who want a 'not to heavy' approach.

2 out of 5 stars Save your money!!   November 23, 2007
I have seen a couple of these programs on TV and was very surprised and disappointed by the poor quality. I did not know that the presenter was a comedian and he really was not funny! I could not help feeling angry about the way Sanjeev Bhaskar "interviewed" the Indian people in such an unprofessional way.
Do not buy it!

1 out of 5 stars Did not do it for me...   November 1, 2007
India is a thrilling and amazing country and this documentary did not get this across. It seemed to me a documentary for fans of this 'comedian' rather than anything to do with India. Watch something else or better still, just go.

3 out of 5 stars At a loss.....   October 29, 2007
"Ganges" and Michael Wood's India are hugely enjoyable, entertaining, educational and professional; 2 DVDs to cherish.

And then we have this from Sanjeev complete with puerile quips. It is better than nothing and if you have an interest in India worth watching; but as a piece of work it falls short, failing to realise the fantastic potential arising from the opportunity that was presented.

Also on the BBC India season recently we saw Saira Khan visit Pakistan. A fantastic couple of programmes and at a standard and depth that contrasted notably with Sanjeev's; please release Saira's work as a DVD! And include notes too..............

1 out of 5 stars A distorted view   October 23, 2007

I'll give just two examples. Bhasker tells us that india is much more advanced than in the UK because there is a lot of recycling of rubbish. What he doesnt tell us is that the people who recycle (in other words, those who manually seperate plastic from rubbish) get paid around 50 rupees a day (60 pence) and have to work in rat-infested rubbish skips.

2. He spends an entire episode dallying with Mumbai's super-rich, then, just at the end, he gets in the obligatory five-second reference to the slums.

Distorted, biased, and very poor.

Anyone who has been to India will know that the reality there is far different to that he portrays.
