Use your own mind November 9, 2008 I find it interesting that the other reviews for this DVD are either 5 stars or 1 star! This probably means that it has evoked an emotional response from either "side" of the debate, rather than a balanced evaluation.
My thoughts after this would be to view it for yourself - don't let comments from the other reviewers convince you before you've watched it, or on the other hand, ridicule you for having an open mind.
After having seen this presentation, it would seem that having looked at the same evidence, different scientists have come to totally opposite conclusions! The evidence is the evidence is the evidence so it can't contradict itself. Perhaps the motivation behind the scientist's view is what does it.
What I've asked myself is "Who do I believe?" "Which group is more interested in publishing a paper for their own self-promotion?"
Whilst it's true that science is meant to be totally objective, many that I have come across or read about are keen to put their own discovery (especially in evolutionary fields) at the centre of evolutionary process, with other scientists' discoveries/theories as dead ends leading to nowhere.
It's also true that many religious groups do not look at their own "text-books" and so are a poor advertisement for their own side; not being able to defend their own beliefs due to never having questioned them.
It would seem that the people presented here are genuine and have done just that: questioned what they have been taught.
You should too. This DVD is a good example of doing so.
I don't agree with every single point raised in the DVD, but have found it interesting and thought-provoking.
A rational scientific argument based on real phenomena - not imaginative evolutionary theories. February 18, 2008 An excellent analysis of real phenomena, which is the only basis for sound science. This contrasts radically with the imaginative, ever changing theories, of the so called evolutionary scientist.
The fact presented that scientists recognise patterns as indicating an intelligent designer is exemplified in the Seti project (which vainly looks for life in space). The simplest string of ordered radio code is recognised by scientists to sufficient indicate intelligent design. And yet the evolutionists chooses to ignore the irreducibly complex existence of DNA, which far exceeds the complexity of all the software code within the global telephone network. Surely this is inconsistent in the extreme.
For evolutionists to believe that nothing created everything, or even just DNA, is truly absurd and counter to basic common sense.
Sadly, such wilful blindness will not only be to the detriment of the propagator, but also all who are mislead by evolutionary propaganda.
This is an excellent DVD, which purely looks at the evidence from a scientific perspective, without reference to religion, or any religious cause. All the scientists engaged in the production of this DVD were once evolutionists, who recognised the `blind faith' required to maintain such beliefs in the face of scientific reality.
Total nonsense & ignorant theories August 23, 2007 0 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is complete garbage, do not waste your money. The arguments for their pathetic theories are so thin I feel dizzy. Good for a laugh if you are very very drunk and bored.
My brain is offended and is suing me for watching this crap
If this is the best then that's not a lot July 6, 2007 0 out of 11 found this review helpful
First, I got this free from Truth In Science, an organisation with an Orwellian title (you remember: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and It's Quicker By Tube, oxymorons all). Secondly, it is nicely put together with help from some of the most virulent anti-evolutionists on the planet. But don't be fooled. The pictures are nice. It's just the argument that sucks.
Don't be fooled by thinking that there is a gigantic conspiracy to suppress the truth about a creator or about the intelligent design of living things. There isn't. Watch this with an open mind and you might be convinced by their arguments. Trouble is, if you don't check the facts or think critically about it, you won't see the truth. This programme gives you half the story patched up with a huge dollop of rhetoric. The science is not very good, not particularly scientific and because most of us don't have access to top university libraries, we struggle to check the facts. But we can spot the flaws in the arguments if we think a bit.
Intelligent design is the argument from personal incredulity. If you find the explanations for evolution unsatisfying then you deserve this DVD. If you want something more than that, then there are much better DVDs out there (just about anything with Attenborough, D, involved). Steer clear or tap up Truth In Science to give it to you. And when you've finished with it, use it in an intelligently designed way - hang it over your bean plants to keep the birds off.
Fairy tales for the scientifically illiterate January 31, 2007 4 out of 21 found this review helpful
I do not know whether this video offends me more as a Christian or a scientist.
There we have several people of limited scientific ability trying to overthrow the whole body of science. Apart from Behe none have published much and even Behe is no more than passable.
What do they give us? Simply their ideas about design which they threw up over 10 years ago and were refuted by all other scientists. They rabbit on about flagellae etc but have no substance. All they can say is "We can't explain it so the great big designer in the sky did it"! The trouble is that many others have explained it and they dont listen. These ideas are discussed in Debating Design ed by Ruse and Dembski and elsewhere eg by Miller in Finding Darwin's God and the NCSE site.
Finally if any teacher should use this in schools they should be sacked! If you find it plausible then please learn some science.
