A real must buy August 4, 2008 I first suffered anxiety and depression in my early twenties but didn't discover this book until I was almost 30. Like many other reviewers here it helped to change my life and I cried tears of relief like a few others when I first read it; it was amazing to me that millions of others had felt this way too. The advice here is wonderful and I still return to it when feeling a little shaky.
Brilliant July 17, 2008 Brilliant , and so simple. If your like me and have tried all sorts of self help " formulas " , forget them all and read this book. I was smiling from page one with comfort . In a word - paradox!!!
The book is easy to read and understand and is well worth it. Ive read it twice allready , and im currently putting it into practice every day. Its given me a new form of confidece and understanding , rather than the vicious circle ive been in for 3 years.
Thank god I found it.
An amazing book July 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read this book about 18 months ago when I was suffering from anxiety and depression and it helped me 110%. I picked it up by chance when I was at my most scared and bewildered and it acted as a light for me in such a dark time in my life. Most importantly it explained what was happening to me and why I was feeling it. It helped me to understand more than any other source had what was going on and how I could learn to conquer my fear and move on with my life. Please do read this - it could be the one thing that helps to turn the anxiety around as it did for me. I recommend this to anyone who is feeling lost and scared due to their illness - it makes you understand that fear is the biggest obstacle and it can be overcome.
She must be such a lovely person ... June 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book literally saved my life when I was suffering from very bad anxiety and depression; I was suicidal. Medication didn't work and I thought I was going mad - for example, how can anyone be afraid of going to the supermarket?? This book was recommended to me by a customer of the library where I was working at the time and as soon as I began to read it I felt comforted. I think that is the thing about Dr Weekes that I would stress the most - she comforts you, she is sympathetic and kind and with that as a base you feel you may be able to try out some of what she is saying. And when you do you will find that it works. Absolutely. 100%. You will feel better - buy the book.
Friend and doctor in one April 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I consider myself really lucky to have found this book. I found it in the depths of confusion and despair and it has been my crutch and my reassurance throughout my own nervous breakdown. Dr Weekes explains the strange feelings and gives practical advice on how to turn it around, and she does all this with encouragement and optimism, both of which are lacking in a breakdown. If I have ever lost hope, I just read the relevant bit of the book again and dared to dream. I have no doubt that things will be well and that is down to this book. It is completely invaluable to anybody in any state of anxiety and I cannot recommend it enough.
